Myth

Because I never got
what I wanted
I took what

you had, instead.
It was like
sucking a hollow egg

out, to get at yolk,
but the creaming air
was cold, mostly

not there, or only there.
Meanwhile, you, like
most of your kind, continued—

getting my first desire.
Then it hit me—
I should have stayed

in my lost orbit,
to have crossed
that dark star
