The Wolf magazine receives Arts Council funding - improves design and content
From February 2008, The Wolf has officially received recognition of a grant from the Arts Council England. The Wolf is very grateful to receive funding from the Arts Council, after publishing as an independent poetry magazine for over 5 years.
The support of the Arts Council, alongside The Wolf’s ongoing commitment to improving the standards in contemporary poetry, will help to achieve various aims of expansion and improvement to the magazine, in print form and online. Some of these changes have already taken place and others are to coincide the launch of The Wolf in
April (the actual launch is April 7th).
These changes will (have) include(d):
- An increase in pagecount to 80 pages.
- The removal of staples (to be substituted with a professional and cuttingedge perfectbound presentation design).
- An International Advisory panel comprising leading international poets: Carolyn Forche, John Kinsella and Robert Minhinnick.
- Reviews Editors Sandeep Parmar and Kim Howey have been confirmed to oversee and, on occasion, solicit critical content. They will ensure an increase in critical studies of contemporary poets and poetry, including a striving to uncover the best new critical work from emerging and leading academic and independent scholars.
- Ongoing commitment to international translation (the next issue will see poets from Burma, Iran, France, Spain and Germany).
- A facelift to The Wolf website to increase interactivity and content.
- A Subscription and Distribution Manager to oversee sub and distribution drives in 2008. Also a parttime Administrator (both these roles have been filled already and this will be mentioned in April’s reference to team Wolf).
- A significant increase in downloadable audio content on the website
and a new subscriptions package and Paypal facility (subscribers can still sign up to the current yearly package until the end of March, which will naturally incorporate future issues at a reduced rate).
This is an exciting time for The Wolf and we thank you for your support of the magazine (also your patience while these changes are underway).
